Jean Bowden

2 Feb 2017

It is with great sadness that the Museum has learnt of the death of Jean Bowden, former curator at Jane Austen's House and friend to countless people in the Jane Austen community.

Under her management the Museum evolved into an internationally-respected literary house and developed many of the relationships that benefit us today. Always practically-minded, Jean also opened a shop and a lecture room, and applied her botany training to the organisation of the collection. She died peacefully in the local hospital on Friday 27th January.
