We are currently recruiting at Jane Austen's House Museum, the home of the author Jane Austen from 1809–1817 and the place where she wrote and revised all her major works. As well as being a tourist attraction, the Museum is an authority on Jane Austen and is home to the largest collection of Austen family artefacts in the world. An independent charitable organisation, the Museum is governed by a board of Trustees and is run by a team of staff and volunteers.
Hours: Full time
Salary: In the region of £40,000 per annum
After six successful years in the role, our current Director is moving on to a new job and the trustees of Jane Austen’s House Museum are seeking a new Director with creativity, enthusiasm and vision to take the house successfully to the next stage.
The museum is the most treasured Jane Austen site in the world and you will enter the organisation at an exciting time as the Museum is completing a National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) Resilient Heritage project and beginning a phased programme of buildings conservation and re-interpretation. An expression of interest for a significant regional grant was recentlysubmitted to the NLHF.
Located in the idyllic Hampshire village of Chawton, near Alton, the museum is open throughout the year, welcoming an average of 40,000 visitors annually with an aspiration to significantly develop this over the coming years.
