A haven for children
Jane Austen’s House Museum in the picturesque Hampshire village of Chawton provides the perfect day out for families of all ages.
There are a wealth of things for kids (and big kids!) to see and do at Jane Austen's charming village home and garden:
Follow an activity trail
Dress up in Regency style clothes
Play hide and seek in the garden
Make your very own lavender bag
Try your hand at writing with a quill
Play with traditional garden games
Borrow a rug and relax with a picnic
Browse the Gift Shop for goodies
Join in with special seasonal activities
There is also much to discover throughout the village of Chawton.
Explore the beautiful surrounding parkland and let off steam in the village play area; take a trip to Chawton House (the house that belonged to Jane Austen's brother) and explore their gardens; stop off at St Nicholas Church where the graves of Jane Austen's mother and sister are located, as well as a statue of Jane Austen; or follow one of the walks and trails that wind through the village and surrounding area.
Facilities and amenities
Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in Jane Austen's cottage garden and picnic rugs are on hand if you forget to pack yours.

An accessible WC with baby changing facilities is available on site and, of course, breastfeeding is welcome.

Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome in the Museum garden.
